Overview

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most spectacular and off-the-beaten-path adventures. Organized by Destination Unlimited Treks, this 17-day trekking package in Nepal promises an extraordinary journey into a region that borders Tibet. You’ll traverse wild trails, encounter diverse Himalayan wildlife, visit traditional villages, and cross the challenging Larkya La Pass at 5,170m/16,962ft, all with the awe-inspiring Mt. Manaslu (8,163m/26,781ft) in view! Destination Unlimited Treks has meticulously crafted the perfect trekking adventure package just for you. The Manaslu Circuit Trek is spread over 17 days, including an extra day for self-sightseeing in Kathmandu! This is a standard itinerary of the Manaslu Circuit trek that can be customized to be longer or shorter, depending on your preferences.

Your adventure begins in Kathmandu, the vibrant capital of Nepal. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel where you can rest and recover from your journey. In the evening, Destination Unlimited Treks. Explore around the streets of Thamel, a great way to meet fellow trekkers, as well as to get your first taste of Nepalese culture.

Before setting off on your trek, you’ll have a trek briefing to ensure you’re fully prepared for the days ahead. As well as time to gather any additional gear or stuff you might need during the trek. The adventure begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola. This 6-8 hour journey takes you through the lush countryside, past villages, rivers, and terraced fields. The road is winding and occasionally bumpy, but the stunning views make it all worthwhile. The trek officially begins as you make your way from Machha Khola towards Samagaun. The trail takes you through dense forests, across suspension bridges, and past terraced fields. You’ll notice a strong Tibetan influence in the local villages, and the sight of prayer flags fluttering in the wind is a constant reminder of the spiritual significance of this region. Wildlife sightings are common, with monkeys, yaks, and the elusive Himalayan Thar often spotted along the way. To ensure your body adjusts to the high altitude, you’ll spend an extra day in Samagaun. This is an important step in preventing altitude sickness. You can choose between two acclimatization hikes; a trek to Pungyen Gompa or a more challenging hike to Manaslu Base Camp. After acclimatizing in Samagaun, the trek continues towards Samdo, a small village near the Tibetan border. The trail gradually ascends, and you’ll start to feel the effects of the altitude. Samdo is a traditional Tibetan village, and you’ll have the chance to experience the unique culture of the region.

The journey from Samdo to Dharamsala, also known as Larkya Base Camp, is a challenging one. The trail is steep, and the altitude makes it even more demanding. However, the stunning views of the surrounding peaks make the effort worthwhile. You’ll spend the night at Dharamsala, preparing for the crossing of the Larkya La Pass the next day. This is the most challenging day of the trek, but also the most rewarding! An early start is crucial to avoid strong winds on the pass. The climb is steep, but the views from the top are nothing short of spectacular. You’ll be surrounded by towering peaks, including Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Himlung, and Kang Guru Peak. After taking in the breathtaking scenery, you’ll begin the descent towards Bhimtang. The descent from the Larkya La Pass to Bhimtang is steep and requires careful attention! The trail can be slippery, so it’s important to take your time and follow our Destination Unlimited Treks guide’s instructions. The landscape changes once again, with the barren high-altitude terrain giving way to lush forests and green meadows. As you continue your descent, the trail becomes easier, and you’ll start to see more vegetation. The trek to Dharapani takes you through beautiful rhododendron forests and past several charming villages. You’ll spend the night in Dharapani, a larger village that serves as a hub for trekkers on both the Manaslu and Annapurna circuits. The trek to Chamje marks the final leg of the Manaslu Circuit Trek. The trail is now well-trodden, as it follows the same route as the Annapurna Circuit. You’ll pass through several villages, each with its own unique charm, as you make your way towards the end of the trek.

The trek ends with a scenic drive back to Kathmandu. As you leave the mountains behind, you’ll have time to reflect on the incredible journey you’ve just completed. The drive offers a last glimpse of the countryside before you return to the hustle and bustle of the capital. Back in Kathmandu, Destination Unlimited Treks will host a farewell dinner, giving you a chance to celebrate the successful completion of the trek with your fellow adventurers. It’s a time to share stories, exchange contact information, and relive the highlights of the trek!
